Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will speak at the party’s national convention in Milwaukee tomorrow as he embarks on his official campaign to become the second US president to serve non-consecutive terms.

These will be Trump’s first public remarks since he survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania on the weekend.

The final official session of the Republican National Convention, at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, will run from 5.45pm to 10.30pm local time on Thursday.

That equates to between 8.45am and 1.30am Friday, AEST, 8.15am-1pm in the Northern Territory and South Australia, and 6.45am-11.30am in Western Australia.

There is no specific time set aside for Trump to speak in that period, however, as presidential nominee, he’s likely to pick a climactic moment to address a fervent crowd.

What is his speech likely to cover?

Trump has already flagged that he would rewrite his highly-anticipated address in the wake of a deadly shooting at one of his rallies in Pennsylvania on Sunday morning AEST.

He claimed the planned one had been a “humdinger”, but that he would refocus on a call for national unity.

“This is a chance to bring the whole country, even the whole world, together. The speech will be a lot different, a lot different than it would’ve been two days ago,” he told the Washington Examiner earlier this week.

Other speakers at the RNC have also veered towards a tone of unification, but have continued high-tempo attacks on the Biden administration, some of which have been found by fact-checkers to be misleading or false.

What happens after the RNC ends?

Trump will hit the road again straight away, with his next campaign rally planned for Grand Rapids in Michigan on Saturday, US time.

It’ll be one week to the day since he was injured in the Pennsylvania shooting.

Meanwhile the US Democrats will head to their own national convention in about a month, from August 19-22 in Chicago.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are expected to be endorsed again as the Democrat White House ticket, despite growing calls for Biden to step down.

Biden has said he is determined to run once more against Trump, who he defeated in the 2020 election.
