‘Wheel of Fortune’ Appears to Correct Production Error That Caused a Contestant’s Money to Suddenly Vanish

A recent Wheel of Fortune re-run appears to have edited a very noticeable mistake that left viewers confused when it first aired in March.

When Season 39, Episode 133 aired March 15, viewers noticed that Carla Sartori’s winnings appeared to vanish into thin air during the episode. At one moment, she had $6,750 in earnings, but when she reappeared onscreen, the scoreboard suddenly said $0.

A viewer noticed that the mistake appeared to be amended when a re-run of the episode recently aired.

“Color me surprised that #WheelofFortune corrected their mistake. Tonight’s rerun was the episode where Carla Sartori lost over $6,000 to a ‘phantom Bankrupt’ that mistakenly got edited out and seemingly caused her to lose. The rerun airing put the Bankrupt back in,” X user WheelRob tweeted.

The tweet included a video that compared the original episode to the rerun, that showed Sartori going bankrupt and losing her $6,750. The video points out that Sartori could have won if she hadn’t mysteriously lost those earnings.

Decider reached out to Wheel of Fortune for clarification on the episode, but did not hear back by time of publication.

After the original episode aired, viewers chalked the mix-up to an editing error.

“Was watching tonight with my daughter. Woman named Carla solved ‘A Warm Evening Breeze.’ On her 1st letter she spun $3500 & got 2 R’s for 7k & bought a vowel. She missed a letter. Then it came back to her. She got $1k express & solved but her $6,750 vanished,” one viewer tweeted at the time. “With the $6,750 she would’ve been the winner. Very strange.”

“I don’t understand tonight’s show,” one person commented on the show’s official Instagram account. “Where the heck did her $6,750 go? She did not land on a bankrupt or anything that took her money away.”

Wheel of Fortune did not clear up the error at the time, but it looks like the editing snafu has been amended after viewers raised their concerns on social media.

Unfortunately, Sartori did not win that episode. Stephen Hudson took home $70,050 after solving the bonus round puzzle.
