John and Lonnie Hambrick joined Season 8 of TLC’s “My 600-lb Life” together after years of a fractured relationship. The brothers drifted apart, The Cinemaholic notes, when Lonnie came out as gay when he was a teenager. Their conservative family, including John, struggled with this news and the brothers grew apart. So the fact that they decided to lose weight together was not only monumental for their health, it was also huge for their relationship and they were successful on both fronts. In one year, Lonnie lost 245 pounds and John lost 294 pounds. On top of that victory, they stayed close; in fact, Lonnie admitted that he and John speak almost everyday to hold each other accountable and connect.

While it sounds like their time on “My 600-lb Life” was a total home run, Lonnie has since opened up about his experience with Dr. Younan Nowzaradan and he doesn’t have good things to say. On December 5, 2022, Lonnie posted a photo to Instagram of Dr. Now’s book in a garbage can. “It’s a shame that a show that actually helped me to find my way to this fabulous life, treated us so poorly…” Lonnie wrote. “I have nothing good to say about the show or their star Dr. Now,” Lonnie later added. “These people are terrible and don’t deserve any praise.” When fans asked for more details, Lonnie was vague but did speak about “TV magic” and said things weren’t accurately represented.
