It’s understood the whale was caught in the net off Greenmount Beach at Coolangatta.

It was able to dislodge itself, but was left swimming with part of that net still caught on its body.

Seaworld Rescue crews launched a rescue operation, with live images showing them engaging with the whale at about 8.30am AEST.

Less than an hour later, the whale was freed and continued unharmed on its way.
