CHICAGO (WLS) — Strong to severe storms are most likely to pass through the Chicago area’s western counties later Sunday afternoon, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., said ABC7 Chicago Meteorologist Mark McGinnis.

Damaging winds and hail are likely in the strongest storms.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Ogle County until 3 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued Sunday for several northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin counties.

The watch was issued about 1 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m. for Boone, Bureau, Carroll, DeKalb, Henry, Jo Daviess, Kane, Lake, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Putnam, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties in Illinois and Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Kenosha, Lafayette, Marquette, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties in Wisconsin.

The storms will arrive in Chicago around dinner time with gusty winds possible, but nearing 7:30 p.m., they will likely weaken and lose their severe threat, McGinnis said.
