Large parts of Australia’s east coast will cop a battering from severe thunderstorms today, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning residents in at least two states to prepare for extreme conditions.
The Bureaus in both Queensland and New South Wales have warned locals that despite this morning’s sunny skies, the forecast is set to change drastically later throughout the day.

In NSW, residents can expect storms, dangerous winds and even hail as the day progresses.

“Severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the east and north today, likely near the Blue Mountains, western Sydney and the Hunter,” the bureau said.

“Gusty winds, heavy rain and large hail are possible.”

In parts of Queensland’s north, similar conditions are set to lash the Peninsula and Gulf Country.

“Thunderstorm forecast for Friday 23/12. Severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are possible in western Queensland and parts of the Peninsula and Gulf Country,” the bureau said.

The sky darkened across Sydney as the storm swept through.
