A Western Australian man has faced court in Victoria after being extradited to the state in connection to the murder of Geelong woman three decades ago.

Darren John Chalmers, 56, wore glasses and prison greens as he appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court via video link from jail on Monday.

He was last week extradited from WA after being charged with the murder of 29-year-old Annette Steward on March 16, 1992.

Steward, a mother-of-two who worked at a Point Henry factory, was found strangled to death in her Geelong West home on March 18.

A friend noticed her car was in the driveway and let himself into the house, where he found her body.

In 2015, Victoria Police offered a $1 million reward for information relating to her suspicious death.

Chalmers was remanded in custody and will next face court on June 13.
