On one side of the country, it’s a deeply ingrained part of the popular culture.

On the other side, it’s a name so alien that it could be from another planet.

But no longer, Chicken Treat hopes.

After close to 50 years as an iconic fast food restaurant in Western Australia, Chicken Treat is branching out to the east coast.

The first Chicken Treat on the east coast opened in Eastern Creek in western Sydney earlier this week.

A second store will open in Crows Nest on the Sydney North Shore in coming weeks.

“The feedback we’ve received from our Eastern Creek customers since opening on Monday has been outstanding and we’re so happy they’re getting to experience what WA locals have loved for decades,” Chicken Treat CEO Mimma Battista said.

The company is planning a rapid expansion in the east, looking to open 33 stores across the country in 18 months.

It’s hoped another nine will be open by next June.

But while the brand is unfamiliar to eastern diners, the company itself isn’t.

Craveable brands also owns Red Rooster and Oporto, also fast food restaurants specialising in chicken.

But Battista insists the food it serves is unique.

The company also claims to have the best hot chips in Australia.

Such a bold claim, like most hot chips, is best taken with a few grains of salt.
