An Australian father of three has died in a “tragic surfing accident” while in Indonesia.

Western Australian man Jeremy ”Jezza’ Wan was killed while surfing in North Sumatra with his teenage son on Thursday.

A fundraiser launched by a family friend said the “best friend, brother, husband, father and son” died “doing what he loved most”.

“Loved and respected by all lucky enough to know him we want to raise some funds to assist with the repatriation process and to support his family during this extremely sad and difficult time,” they wrote.

“We will miss him dearly and will support his family as best we can.”

The fundraiser has raised $60,500, which is significantly higher than its $15,000 goal, in just 48 hours.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said the Australian government was providing consular assistance to the man’s family.

“We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time,” the spokesperson said.

“Owing to our privacy obligations we are unable to provide further comment.”
