Police have released footage of a Melbourne man’s final moments to try and find the driver who sparked a pursuit that led to Faris Owraha’s death.
The 33-year-old Roxburgh Park man died about 2.40am on Monday, December 23 when his red Kia Cerato crashed into a tree on Bridgewater Road, Roxburgh Park and burst into flames.
Faris was driving the Kia to chase a black 2007-2012 Toyota Corolla Ascent sport hatch that had just crashed into the Kia while it was parked and unoccupied in Neptune Street.
Vision shows Faris running to get into the Kia as his mother gives chase.
The two cars were then captured on camera weaving through the suburbs before they collided on Bridgewater Road, sending the Kia into the tree.
Brother Ethar Owraha said Faris would “be remembered forever”.
“Rest in peace, my brother,” he said.
“Christmas and New Years everyone is celebrating, you know? And imagine you’re celebrating your brother’s funeral.
About one thousand mourners are expected to attend Faris’ funeral tomorrow.
The Toyota fled the scene of the crash.
Investigators believe it sustained damage to the rear bumper during the incident.
Police are appealing for the driver to come forward, or for anybody with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
