Vikings out on Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes as Giants, Steelers remain in waiting game

The Vikings have removed themselves from the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes.

NFL Network reported Wednesday that Minnesota is “not pursuing” the four-time league MVP “at this time” and intends to move forward with quarterback J.J. McCarthy, the team’s 10th overall pick last year who missed his rookie season while recovering from knee surgery.

The Vikings, who saw Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones leave in free agency, want to add depth with a veteran signal-caller as a backup to McCarthy.

Rodgers does not fit that profile.

The Giants and Steelers remain in the race for Rodgers’ services.

The 41-year-old quarterback was released by the Jets this offseason after two years.
