A South Australian community gathered in mourning today to mark the 50th anniversary of the notorious Adelaide Oval abductions.

Joanne Ratcliffe, 11 and Kirste Gordon, 4 were abducted from an Australian rules football match on August 25, 1973. The case remains unsolved to this day.

Fifty years on, friends and family members held a vigil in remembrance of two young girls.

Key witness Tony Kilmartin, who saw the abduction unfolding when he was 11, was also in attendance at the vigil.

Joanne’s sister, Suzie said it’s a tough time for their family, but they have been “blown away” by the outpouring of support.

Just this week Suzie met with investigators, claiming the abductor was the now-deceased Stanley Arthur Hart, who lived in the area at the time of the girl’s disappearance and was later known to be a paedophile.
