Victoria Beckham was ‘very embarrassed’ over David calling her out for privileged upbringing

Stop right now: fans are getting the scoop on that moment from the “Beckham” docuseries.

Fisher Stevens’ four-part David Beckham documentary on Netflix saw Victoria Beckham reflecting on her husband’s life and career.

However, one part that shocked viewers was when the soccer star barged in mid-recording and proceeded to fact-check the singer after she downplayed her wealthy upbringing.

David Beckham called out Victoria Beckham about her upbringing while she filmed the “Beckham” docuseries.

“I was thinking, ‘God, she’s really sweet and she’s really open,’” Fisher recalled to Variety on Wednesday. “And she starts to talk and telling me, ‘We came from kind of modest …’ Then David opens the door and he goes, ‘Be honest. Be honest.’ And I’m like, ‘What?’”

The 60-year-old immediately texted his producing partner, who was listening in from one room over.

His message read: “What the f–k is David doing here?”

The team purposely shot on a day the 49-year-old would be away from their home in Holland Park, London, to make Victoria, who tied the knot with David in 1999, feel more comfortable.

Fisher shared, “[Victoria] was very embarrassed and nervous because clearly, he’s been watching, and I was mortified myself.”

The director resumed the interview only after he heard the door close and watched David’s “beautiful car” drive off.

“I only had an hour and a half with Victoria, so I needed him to get out now,” Fisher recounted.

As for why the retired player crashed his wife’s interview? Fisher said: “I think he was nervous for her.”

However, it turned out that David’s interruption helped Victoria, 50, open up more.

“It was affecting him,” Fisher admitted, “and I think he wanted his wife to not do the typical thing, and that just freed her because then the next interview, that’s when she was like, ‘Ready, go.’ This interview changed everything. So it was kind of great he was there in a way, and it was a great moment for the movie, clearly. But it pissed me off.”

He also noted that Posh Spice — who shares Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 13 with David — “was quite nervous [during] the first interview.”

“Getting her to sit down and talk about her husband,” Fisher continued, “she wasn’t so excited to tell me all this.”

The director also discovered a critical part of the interview process for the first time: the need for hair and makeup.

But Fisher said it wasn’t a problem, adding, “But she’s Victoria, of course, fine.”

The creator of the hit documentary explained to the outlet that the series was “a love story.”

“This is a love story about him and his wife, him and his dad, him and his ex-manager, Alex Ferguson,” Fisher stated.

And he even credits the show’s success to one key element.

“David and Victoria trusting me, for sure,” he affirmed. “They really trusted me.”

During the series’ first episode, Victoria explains what initially drew her to the athlete, telling the director: “I think also we both come from families that work really hard. Both of our parents work very hard. We’re very working class.”

That answer didn’t fly with David, who popped his head in the door and said to Victoria, “Be honest!”

“I am being honest,” she insisted before David countered, “What car did your dad drive you to school in?”

The fashion designer shot back that “it’s not a simple answer” and “it depends.”

David continued pushing, and Victoria eventually relented, telling the camera: “OK, in the ’80s my dad had a Rolls Royce.”

Nonetheless, the couple’s love after 25 years of marriage shone through.

“It hasn’t all been rosy with his relationship with Victoria. There’s constant controversy,” Fisher told Variety in October 2023 when the docu-series first aired. “Frankly, I was quite moved by their relationship at the end of the day, and — after all they’ve been through — how much they love each other, and how close they are.”

Fans will soon see Victoria back on their screens, as Netflix announced on Wednesday that it’s in production on a project with the Spice Girls member.

“The series will follow her reinvention as a Creative Director of her own brand,” the streaming platform wrote on X, “offering exclusive access to Victoria, her fashion and beauty business, and her never-before-seen archives.”
