A man and woman allegedly murdered in the Brisbane suburb of Mitchelton have been identified as Jasmine Lee Sloane, 35, and Stephen John Peters, 61.
Police have charged 41-year-old Steven Mataka Henry with their murders after he was found at the scene of a home on Kentville Street about 8.50am yesterday.
There, police had found Sloane and Peters dead.
Police will allege that Henry was at the Mitchelton home on Wednesday night and said a child inside the house called triple zero the next morning.
Henry was today charged with two counts of murder (reckless indifference), and two counts each of supplying dangerous drugs and possessing dangerous drugs.
Police said the 41-year-old failed to contact emergency services after Sloane and Peters had an adverse reaction to substances.
They said Henry was known to the pair.
Sloane had spoken on national television about her family’s struggle with the homelessness crisis in Brisbane.
“Affordability of rentals is out of my price range,” she told the ABC several months ago.
Officers yesterday taped off a large area encompassing three homes and spoke to a witness who had helped police.
Several children had been taken away from the home and were being looked after by child protection workers.
Police will do a test to determine what Sloane and Peters had ingested.
“We’re pretty confident that at least some of those drugs were cocaine and amphetamines,” a Queensland Police spokesman said.
Officers say they do not believe the drugs were part of a bad batch.
Henry faced Brisbane Magistrates Court where his case was briefly mentioned and adjourned until October.
He will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
