Melbourne man Bikram Jit, 23, was driving home from the gym when he crashed his Range Rover into a barrier at Truganina, in Melbourne’s west.

Police believe after Jit exited his car he was struck by another vehicle and its driver failed to stop at the scene.

Jit’s family said the 23-year-old had a big heart and was a hard worker.

Witnesses told police they saw Jit’s car crash into wire rope barriers before it spun out of control.

Jit was then seen exiting the car and standing in the middle of the major arterial road when he was struck by oncoming traffic.

A female motorist who swerved to avoid hitting Jit called police.

“It looks like a vehicle following her may have impacted that person,” Detective Senior Sergeant Christian Von Tunk said.

Police said they were still working to identify the truck driver who didn’t stop.

“We’ve got to understand that [the driver] may not know they’ve struck someone.”
