A McDonald’s in the US has rolled out a radical new policy: All customers under the age of 21 are banned from entering.

The measure was enforced at a store in Fairfax County, Virginia after a spike in violence.

A sign placed at the entrance of the fast food chain reads: “Due to repeated incidents of student violence, this McDonald’s location is temporarily closed for dine-in service to anyone under 21 years of age.

“This decision was made to protect our staff, our guests, and our community.”

Those aged 21 years and older are required to ring the restaurant’s door bell to be let in.

Staff members have been positioned at the entrance to enforce the restriction and assist customers.

The restaurant’s drive-thru and mobile ordering options remain available to all ages.
