The US embassy in Qatar issued an emergency “shelter in place” Monday for all Americans living there amid escalating tensions with Iran.
The alert was issued “out of an abundance of caution,” the embassy said, without detailing specific threats.
The notice comes after the State Department issued a warning on Sunday to American citizens around the world following the US’s unprecedented attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“The conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel and periodic closure of airspace across the Middle East,” the State Department said.
“There is the potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad. The Department of State advises U.S. citizens worldwide to exercise increased caution.”
