A man stabbed in the neck outside a public housing complex in broad daylight has died, sparking a homicide investigation.

Emergency services were called to Maloney Street, Eastlakes in Sydney’s south at about 12.20pm on Monday following reports of a man lying injured on the footpath.

The man died at the scene, despite paramedics’ best efforts to revive him.

The victim is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death was launched by officers with the assistance of  the homicide squad.

Dozens of uniformed and plain-clothed detectives spent much of Monday afternoon at the cordoned off scene as forensics scoured the area for evidence.

Shocked residents recalled hearing a ‘commotion’ shortly before midday.

A woman was woken by the sound of voices, including that of a man saying ‘get the dog, get the dog’.

She claimed shouting and fights were a common occurrence.

‘It’s horrifying living here,’ the mother-of-three told the Daily Telegraph.

‘It’s crazy, but you’ll expect an incident to happen at least once a month.’

His attacker remains at large as of late Monday night.

Witnesses and anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
