Alex Shorey was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he is receiving specialist care.
The 20-year-old marking and language student landed in Brisbane last night on a medevac jet from Taiwan, where he had been on exchange.
He had been in a hospital in Taipei after falling seriously ill from a highly toxic rat poison.
It’s still unclear how he ingested the poison, which has been identified as Super Warfarin.

Shorey went into hypovolemic shock on April 18, and went into cardiorespiratory collapse five days ago.
“Whilst we’re unsure exactly how this poisoning occurred, it is suspected that Alex may have picked up some food at local street market or along his travels that was either laced with poison, or had somehow been contaminated with super warfarin,” an online fundraiser set up to secure the student a specialist flight home said.
“Super Warfarin stops the blood from coagulating, and so Alex’s body is haemorrhaging both externally and internally into his muscles and organs.”
His mother Julie Shorey said the family feels humbled and blssed after the fundraiser brought in $200,000 to help bring Alex home.
