The boys, both aged 16, were arrested yesterday.
The pair wore hooded jumpers as they appeared in court for the first time, where it was revealed one of them refused to let his parents be present during the police interview.
The teenagers, from Dandenong and Travancore, were charged this morning over the stabbing death of Ash Gordon.
Police found him on Eildon Street about 5.30am after being called to reports of an aggravated burglary at the man’s Sargent Street home.
It’s alleged the victim had been involved in a confrontation where he was fatally injured.
The teenage boys are now facing murder, aggravated burglary and theft charges.
One of the boys refused to let his parent or guardian be present during his police interview, with the prosecutor telling the court they haven’t been able to identify them.
During the incident, the boys allegedly stole Gordon’s Nike Airforce shoes, black headphones, a gaming computer and laptop, as well as a Louis Vuitton wallet and car keys.
The GP was well-liked and respected in the local community.
His girlfriend, Dakota Nagel, spoke out after the arrests.
“He was the light of my life, he was irreplaceable,” she said.
“He was the most beautiful, kind, patient and understanding person I’ve ever met.
“I’m glad I spent my life with him.”
Gordon’s sister Natalie Gordon said she was relieved after the accused boys were charged.
“These are two young boys, they’re not even men yet,” she said.
“I felt anger, a whole new wave of sadness but instantly I did just feel a big sigh of relief.
“Nothing will ever bring Ash back and nothing will take away that hole that is in our family.”
Superintendent Janet Stevenson said the arrests came after extensive inquiries by police.
“Since this incident occurred on Saturday, the Homicide Squad investigators have worked tirelessly with our colleagues in the region and specialist units to identify, locate and apprehend those responsible for this tragedy. We have now charged those persons in relation to the matter,” he said.
“We know that Ash’s family and loved ones are grieving. This arrest will not take away the tragedy of this dreadful situation, but we hope that it will alleviate some of their distress.
“We will continue to provide all the support they require during this difficult time.”
