The cosmos is offering up a double feature in August: a pair of supermoons culminating in a rare blue moon.

The first supermoon appeared slightly brighter and bigger than normal.

From country to country, the “sturgeon moon” was captured by keen sky gazers, including here in Valletta, Malta.

The moon can be seen rising behind the steeple of St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral and the dome of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
