Police have charged two people with murder after an investigation into the death of a two-year-old girl in Queensland in December 2022.

It will be alleged the child had been sick for some time and the pair had failed to seek medical treatment for her, police have said.

The toddler was declared dead when she was presented to the Mackay Base Hospital on December 29.

Detectives charged a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman from North Mackay today with one count each of murder and responsibility to have a birth registered.

Both will appear in Mackay Magistrates Court tomorrow.
