After a major manhunt spanning both Queensland and NSW, the alleged killers of a woman shot dead at Caboolture have been arrested and charged.
Chloe Jade Mason’s heartbroken family spoke exclusively to 9News after receiving the news of the arrests, which were made this afternoon in Logan, south of Brisbane.
Bodycam footage shows the breakthrough police had been after for several weeks.
Codye Thomson and Kaine Thomson-Gleeson were surrounded by specialist officers in parkland off Civic Parade.
The pair are accused of killing 23-year-old Mason on a Caboolture street on December 22.
Both have been charged with murder.
Chloe’s sister, Dani Mason, said she was “still processing the emotions”.
“I’m not upset today, I’m happy,” she said.
“Someone needs to be held accountable, it’s been too many weeks of pain and suffering for my family.”
It had been an investigation of twists and turns.
Police had questioned Thomson-Gleeson and Thomson before Christmas but they were released due to insufficient evidence.
The manhunt stretched from Queensland to NSW and an appeal was made for information.
The pair are accused of fleeing interstate and sleeping rough in a car.
Even this morning, Queensland Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski had said the search was still active.
“We won’t stop until we find them,” he said.
The family say they’d never heard of the two men.
“Obviously nothing can ever bring my sister back, but she always said ‘it’s not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you again’,” Dani said.
“We can start the year off with less unanswered questions and that’s a bit of a weight off everyone’s shoulders, I guess.”
The men will face Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
