Police are investigating after two people died in a traffic crash north of Innisfail this morning.
Police said that two vehicles collided on the Bruce Highway about 11.30am.
Two people were declared dead at the scene.
A third person was airlifted to Cairns Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Bruce Highway around Fitzgerald Creek was closed in both directions.
Police have urged motorists to avoid the area and expect lengthy delays.
Diversions are in place for small vehicles.
Anyone with information about the crash has been urged to come forward.
