An elderly woman and man have died in a four-car crash in Hobart.

Police believe a truck rear-ended a Holden Barina, which then struck a Holden Commodore and Honda HRV on the Bowen Bridge at about 3.40pm on Friday.

Two passengers in the Barina were killed. They were aged in their 80s.

The woman driving the Barina was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A woman and two children in the Commodore and the female driver of the HRV were not seriously injured,

The truck driver was not injured and will undergo mandatory testing, as will the other drivers involved in the crash.

Police are investigating and will prepare a report for the coroner. 

Inspector Jason Klug said: ‘Our thoughts are with everyone involved.
