Two people have died and another is fighting for life after a three-car collision on a major Queensland highway north of Brisbane.

The crash happened on the two-lane D’Aguilar Highway at Caboolture around 5pm yesterday.

Police said a grey Ford Ranger was travelling east along the highway in Moodlu when it ploughed into a Mazda CX-3, carrying two young men, which then hit a Nissan Micra.

One of the new cases is linked to an infected nurse from Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The Mazda and the Nissan were both travelling west.

The driver and sole occupant of the Mazda, a 29-year-old Deception Bay man, and a passenger of the Ford Ranger, a 24-year-old Caboolture man, died at the scene.

Paramedics the driver of the Ford Ranger, a 51-year-old Caboolture woman, to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan Micra, a 25-year-old Clayfield woman, and a passenger of the Ford Ranger, a 43-year-old Caboolture man, were transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
