Two people on separate yachts have died during the Sydney to Hobart race overnight.

At about 11.50pm, police were told a crew member on board a yacht had been struck by a sail boom.

Crew members performed CPR but the injured person did not survive.

The yacht has changed its course to Jervis Bay, where it is expected to arrive at about 7am.

In a similar incident on another yacht at about 2.15am, a crew member was struck by a sail boom and died despite fellow crew administering CPR.

A police vessel is escorting that yacht to Bateman’s Bay, where it is expected to arrive at about 7am.

9News understands the two vessels involved were Bowline and Flying Fish Arctos.
