Two people have died in a plane crash in northern New South Wales, police have confirmed.

Early reports said that a light plane crashed into powerlines on Winegrove Road in Lilydale, near Grafton, at 8.50am today.

Officers are still working to identify the passengers, however, police believe two people have died in the crash. 

Several emergency response agencies attended the scene, including NSW Ambulance, Police and the State Emergency Service.

Investigators will work with aviation authorities to understand the circumstances around the crash.
