A man and a woman have been charged after three police officers were allegedly assaulted in Geelong, Victoria, yesterday.
The incident allegedly unfolded on Peter Street in Grovedale just after 9.30am while police were attempting to arrest a man and woman.
Natalie Kotschner said she raced outside after hearing screams.
“I heard a lot of swearing, a lot of screaming,” Kotschner said.
“Police even yelled out ‘please help us’.
“(The officer) was really, really distraught, and he said ‘you tried to kill me’.”
A short time later, officers sighted the allegedly stolen Ford Ranger, driving alongside an allegedly stolen black Subaru Liberty, on Surf Coast Highway.
The officers attempted to intercept the Ford on Peter Street in Grovedale, but the Subaru allegedly drove directly at them.
One officer was hit by the car and taken to the hospital with a minor injury. Two other officers were allegedly assaulted during the arrest of the Subaru and Ford drivers.
The pair suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.
A 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested at the scene.
The Ararat man has been charged with multiple offences including assault, resisting police, and stealing a car.
The Norlane woman was also charged with multiple offences including assault, resisting police, car theft, and drug offences.
They were both remanded in custody and will face court today.
