Trump reveals Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is ‘absolutely’ on his VP shortlist

Former President Donald Trump revealed Thursday that he’s “absolutely” considering Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to be his running mate in the general election.

“He’s a spectacular man,” Trump, 77, said of the Lone Star State governor seated alongside him during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

“He’s done a great job,” the former president continued. “Yes, certainly. He would be somebody that I would very much consider.”

When Hannity interjected to say, “So he’s on the list,”  Trump responded, “Absolutely.”

The GOP front-runner toured the US-Mexico border near Eagle Pass, Texas, with Abbott, 66, and members of the Texas National Guard earlier in the day.

The border town has been at the center of the Biden administration’s legal battles with Texas, which stem from Abbott’s attempts to secure the border with state law enforcement authorities, buoys and razor wire.

Abbott endorsed Trump for president last November.

Last week, Trump acknowledged during a town hall in South Carolina that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem were all on his shortlist of potential running mates.

Out of the seven candidates Trump has confirmed he’s considering, only DeSantis has said he has no interest in the job.

“It’s gotta be who is going to be a good president. You always have to think that,” Trump said earlier this month about what he’s looking for in a potential running mate if he were to lock up the GOP nomination for president.

In January, Trump teased that he’s already decided on a running mate but refused to say who it is when asked during a town hall in Des Moines, Iowa.

Trump gave no timeline Thursday for when he would announce his pick.
