Donald Trump has been rushed off the stage by Secret Service agents after reported gunshots were heard during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

Trump had taken the stage at a rally in front of thousands at Butler today when he abruptly paused as shots rang out repeatedly.

9News US correspondent Jonathan Kearsley told Today a number of shots appeared to have been fired.

Vision shows the former president cowering to the ground before getting to his feet.

Associated Press reported screams were heard in the crowd of several thousand people and the bangs continued as agents tended to him on stage.

He appeared bloody with his right fist raised in the air before he was shuffled into a security car.

A spokesman for Trump, Steven Cheung, released a statement saying Trump was “fine”. 

“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,” the statement reads.

“He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow.”
