Trump described the image, which hangs in Colorado’s State Capitol, as “distorted” and blamed Colorado governor Jared Polis for commissioning the painting.
The president complained about the portrait on his social media platform Truth Social and called for its removal.
They threw it all behind Trump – and lost more than $300 billion
He said he’d rather no painting be hung in the statehouse at all and claimed Colorado residents are upset about the painting too.
“Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves,” Trump wrote on Sunday evening local time.
“But the one in Colorado, in the State Capitol, put up by the Governor… was purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before.”
Trump pointed out the artist, named Sarah Boardman, painted Obama during his administration.
“He looks wonderful, but the one on me is truly the worst,” he added.
“She must have lost her talent as she got older. In any event, I would much prefer not having a picture than having this one.
“Many people from Colorado have called and written to complain. In fact, they are actually angry about it!”
Trump then said Polis should be “ashamed of himself” for hanging the portrait.
He then shared an image of his official presidential portrait on Truth Social.
The portrait was unveiled by Boardman back in 2019.
