Trump campaign sends cease and desist to GOP Rep. Bob Good over yard sign ‘implying’ former president’s endorsement

The Trump campaign warned House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good on Friday to stop producing and displaying materials “that give the false impression” that the vulnerable Virginia Republican has the former president’s endorsement.

A cease and desist letter, obtained by The Post, was fired off to Good and his campaign treasurer after Trump’s legal team learned of yard signs being put up in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District with the presumptive Republican nominee for the president’s name on top of Good’s name.

“It has come to our attention that your campaign is producing yard signs purporting to indicate President Trump’s endorsement of your candidacy,” the letter from the Dhillon Law Group read.

“You know that is false,” the missive continued. “In fact, President Trump has endorsed your opponent.”

Trump, 77, endorsed state senator John McGuire in Virginia’s 5th District GOP primary earlier this week in a Truth Social post where he declared that Good was “BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA.”

“He turned his back on our incredible movement, and was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently, when he gave a warm and ‘loving’ Endorsement – But really, it was too late,” Trump wrote. “The damage had been done!”

Good had backed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) during the 2024 GOP presidential primaries and failed to win Trump back over despite endorsing him after DeSantis dropped out and appearing at the former president’s Manhattan hush money trial earlier this month.

McGuire, a former Navy SEAL, was endorsed by the Republican Jewish Coalition last month, with the group noting that Good’s dissenting vote against a $95 billion emergency spending bill that included $17 billion in military assistance for Israel was a major factor.

The cease and desist letter warns that neither Good nor his campaign “are authorized to use President Trump’s name or the Campaign’s to falsely imply their support of your candidacy” or “claim that you represent or are otherwise associated with President Trump or the Campaign.”

“Producing and displaying materials that give the false impression that President Trump is supportive of your candidacy is a fraud on the voters of Virginia’s 5th Congressional District,” the letter states. “It is an abuse of the voters’ trust to make such false statements.”

It further cautioned Good that “using President Trump’s name, image, or likeness in any of your fundraising materials” would be considered as “a fraud on the donors.”

Trump’s team demanded that Good “immediately cease and desist producing and displaying materials that falsely imply that President Trump endorses you or is any way supportive of your campaign.”

The Trump campaign reaped a “record-shattering” $34.8 million in small dollar donations in the hours after the former president’s guilty verdict was read by jurors in a Manhattan courtroom Wednesday.

The campaign has warned down ballot Republicans shortly after the verdict that it would not look kindly on candidates trying to siphon off money from donors that would otherwise go to Trump.

“Any Republican elected official, candidate or party committee siphoning money from President Trump’s donors are no better than Judge Merchan’s daughter,” Trump co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita told Politico.

“We’re keeping a list, we’ll be checking it twice and we aren’t in the spirit of Christmas,” he added.

Good’s campaign did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.
