A fuel tank truck has crashed into a kindergarten in Melbourne’s north leaving a child seriously injured and killing an adult.

The vehicle smashed into the Macedon Ranges Montessori Preschool at Riddells Creek at 2.30pm on Monday.

A child has been taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and an adult has been confirmed dead following the collision.

The adult is yet to be formally identified. 

‘Emergency Services are currently in Riddells Creek following a collision. It’s believed at this early stage a truck collided with a kindergarten on Main Road around 2.20pm,’ a Victoria Police spokesman said. 

‘The driver of the truck has also been taken to hospital for observation. The exact circumstances are being investigated.’

The vehicle is believed to have hit a power pole on Main Road before it drove into the playground area of the kindergarten.

Police, firefighters and paramedics remain on scene.
