The woman who died after being discovered with burns all over her body in a unit block stairwell has been pictured for the first time.

Kristy Banister, 44, was found by paramedics in the unit complex on Vicliffe Avenue in Campsie, in Sydney’s west, just after 3pm on Monday.

She was rushed to Concord Hospital but died hours later about 9.30pm.

A resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told Daily Mail Australia he heard shrieking at about 2.30pm before the woman was discovered on fire.

He understands Ms Banister cut herself before covering herself in petrol.

The man said ‘everyone’ in the building had been ‘complaining about her for months to public housing’ but had got no response.

‘She had been living here more than five years. There have been complaints about her the entire time. But public housing have done nothing,’ he said.

The man claimed Ms Banister had been housing two illegal tenants in her unit who were not home when she reportedly set herself alight on Monday.

‘I saw [the illegal tenant] and his girlfriend leave at about 7am on the motorbike. They haven’t been back since,’ he said.

‘How can anyone do that? Pour petrol on themselves?

‘You have to be not right in the head.’

The man said syringes had been discovered near the building.

‘A couple of weeks ago, there were kids playing in the carpark. They picked some things up off the ground, went to their dad and said “What are these?” he said.

‘They were a couple of syringes.

‘We are dirty that we complained about it a month ago.’

No one else was injured in the self-harm incident.

Officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
