A person has been pronounced dead at Shelly Beach in Sydney's Northern Beaches on Friday

A woman has drowned at a popular beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. 

Police and paramedics rushed to Shelly Beach in Manly at about 10am on Friday following reports of a concern for welfare. 

Despite frantic efforts to revive the 63-year-old woman, she died at the scene. 

‘On arrival officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command were told a 63-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the water,’ police said. 

A report will be prepared for the Coroner and inquires will continue.  

Shelly beach is popular with tourists and locals alike for swimming and snorkelling.
