Two dangerous inmates who broke out of prison and were on the run for three days have been caught by police after they were spotted by a member of the public.

Vaughn Michael James Hunter, 31, and Fabien Brian Galigan, 20, fled from Townsville Correctional Centre on Sunday night.

The pair ‘walked out’ of the facility’s low-security custody farm around 9pm, sparking an urgent manhunt for the escapees.

Hunter is serving ten months for serious assault and Galigan two years and six months for wounding.

A member of the public saw the men near the intersection of Ross River Rd and Bowen Rd in Mundingburra about 1.15am on Wednesday.
