Tszyu has been warned that fighting towering southpaw Sebastian Fundora on such short notice is risking ‘career suicide’.
When his original opponent, former world champion Keith Thurman, pulled out of Sunday’s non-title pay-per-view blockbuster last week with a biceps injury, Tszyu could have sat back and waited.
Instead, he jumped at the chance to take on Fundora, who stands 22cm taller than him.
The Sydneysider said ‘zero’ boxers in the world would fight Fundora on such short notice, especially with his WBO world title on the line.
Former Aussie boxer and manager Peter Mitrevski said that agreeing to the fight was an unnecessary risk.
“It’s a massive risk, to me this is career suicide,” said Mitrevski during the week.
“Fundora has ruined one Aussie’s career in Daniel Lewis and he can ruin Tim Tszyu’s.”
