Emergency services were called to a home on a Cousin Drive in Bayswater about 11.15am.
Police said the body of the woman was found inside the property and has not been formally identified.
A 47-year-old man from Bayswater was arrested a short time later at a neighbouring address.
Police said three teenage witnesses were at the scene at the time of the stabbing and one had a minor injury.
