Three people are confirmed dead today following a catastrophic crash in Queensland.

Police are investigating the five-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway at Maryborough, about 255km north of Brisbane, which led to two of of the vehicles catching alight.

Police say the crash happened on the Bruce Highway and Walker Street intersection about 10pm yesterday and involved two semi-trailers, a dual cab ute, a hatchback and a caravan trailer.

Three people died at the scene and three others received minor injuries.

The highway is expected to remain closed for some time as emergency crews remain on the scene, with diversions in place through Torbanlea.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has any dashcam vision, is urged to contact police.
