Three people are dead and a man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a horror crash on one of Australia’s busiest highways.
Three vehicles were involved in the head-on collision on the Bruce Highway at Federal on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast shortly after 4am on Friday, closing all southbound lanes near exit 244.
Police have confirmed three people have died and that a vehicle allegedly stolen from Gympie hours earlier was involved in the crash.
A man aged in his 30s suffering head injuries was taken to Gympie Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

One of the vehicles involved was allegedly stolen from Young Street in Gympie hours earlier on Thursday afternoon.
A woman had approached her car and opened the driver’s door when she was threatened at knifepoint by a man, who demanded her car.
The woman complied and told her three children to also get out of the car.

Passing motorist Roshanna Bowman was travelling northbound on the Bruce Highway moments after the crash occurred.
‘We just saw this car completely just squished up against the concrete between the two different lanes,’ she told the Today show.
‘We’re not sure how someone could’ve possibly survived that……all the rubbish was on the other side of the road as well.’

All southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway are expected to remain closed for at least several hours.
‘The road is completely blocked and drivers are advised to use alternate routes where possible. Diversions will be in place,’ police said.
The Forensic Crash Unit has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
