Three people have been killed in a two-car crash south of the Gold Coast overnight.
The incident began when Queensland Police noticed a black 2017 Mercedes GLS 63 wagon allegedly driving dangerously along Bonogin Road near Calanthe Lane, in Bonogin, about 5pm.
Officers attempted to stop the car but did not pursue it at the time.
“Shortly after, police were flagged down by a passing motorist who alerted them to a collision involving the vehicle and a silver 2018 Mercedes A200 hatch around a kilometre from the attempted intercept,” Queensland Police said.

Police said the crash caused the second silver Mercedes, with three people inside, to hit a power pole, which fell down and caused the black Mercedes to catch fire.
“The three occupants of the silver Mercedes, two women and a man, were entrapped and police managed to free two of them, rendering first aid ahead of the emergency response,” Queensland Police said.
“Despite the best efforts of police, paramedics and the passing motorists who provided initial assistance, the trio died at the scene.”
The only person in the black Mercedes, a 46-year-old woman, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with an arm injury.
