Thousands of people have taken to the streets of cities across Australia, marching in the wake of a string of tragic deaths of women.

The marches in Sydney and Adelaide today followed a demonstration in Newcastle last night, with further marches planned for the other major cities tomorrow.

At least 26 women have died from alleged gender-based violence in Australia this year.
