A chook is making waves and turning heads after taking up a new hobby during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mrs Chook, a Plymouth Rock chicken, has been taught to body surf and, according to her owner, she loves it.

“You cannot make a chook like the water, particularly the ocean, but this one has a passion,” owner Elaine Janes told 9News.

“She has a passion of being in the water and she has a passion for body surfing. Just have a look at her face, it is pure contentment, happiness, joy.”

Janes said it all started during lockdown as a bit of a hobby. Fast forward 18 months, the chook is now swimming in shallow waves at Ocean Grove Beach.

However, she can’t be outdone by some of Janes’ other feathered friends, like a skateboarding rooster named Squiggles
