Coins featuring the effigy of King Charles III (an artistic mock-up of which can be seen here) will enter Australian circulation before the end of 2023.

Among other questions, it’s prompted Aussies to wonder whether the final coins featuring the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, which have continued to be minted in the year since her death, will come to hold any special value.

There’s no concrete answer to that yet, but if they’re anything like the following Australian coins on sale from Downies Collectables, that handful of loose change could be worth a fortune in a few decades.
