“I didn’t have no warning, they came in two steps, I lift my head and that’s it, they were on me,” he told 9News.

“[Metal] bars, looked like they had a gun.”

The 68-year-old was left battered and bruised after the alleged attack, revealing the full extend of his injuries on Tuesday.

“They had to put a couple of plates in to pull my cheek bone back out so it didn’t heal and cave in,” Askevold said.

A gold chain was ripped from around his neck as the grandfather of 13 was allegedly repeatedly struck, including with the butt of a firearm and robbed of $50,000 in jewellery.

Police and the TRG bearcat swooped on Sunday, pulling over a car in Joondalup and carrying out searches in Greenwood and Yanchep.

They found a sawn-off shotgun, rifle, homemade gun, ammunition, drugs and jewellery.

Five men and a woman have now been charged with a total of 29 offences.

A bail application for one of the men was heard just one day before the Innaloo alleged attack.

Some of the accused allegedly forced their way into an Alkimos Airbnb armed with an axe and a knife and assaulted a man and made off with jewellery.

“Although these arrests are significant, police will not stop to identify any other potential persons who are criminally responsible for either or both offenses,” WA Police’s Detective Senior Sgt Bruce Bowers said.
