Alex Collins said that popular graphic tees were one item to banish from your wardrobe if you want to look more stylish

A woman has revealed the three common fashion items to banish now – and what you should be wearing instead.

Alex Collins, a fashion expert from the UK, sharply divided opinion with her advice about the popular items of clothing that she wouldn’t be caught dead wearing.

‘There are three things I gave up wearing to improve my style,’ she said in a video.

She has banned distressed hem shorts, graphic tees and cheap, colourful bags from her outfit rotation in a bid to smarten up her look.

1. Shorts with distressed hems

Distressed and raw denim hems are a wardrobe staple for many, especially during the warmer months, but Alex is no longer a fan of the casual look.

‘Instead I much prefer tailored shorts or shorts with no distressed details.’

She sported a chic outfit showing black shorts and a black t-shirt with tan accessories to show how properly tailored shorts look so much sharper.

2. Graphic t-shirts

The style expert has also done away with graphic t-shirts and opts instead of plain or striped shirts, explaining it’s more versatile and goes with the rest of her wardrobe.

3. Cheap, colourful bags

Alex said cheap bags in bright colours can get in the way of an elegant look.

‘Instead, I go for bags in classic colours and classic shapes so that they’re timeless and can go with any outfit,’ she said.

Women reacting to the video couldn’t agree on the advice, but some were fans of the ‘chic’ tips and said that Alex’s wardrobe was giving Princess Diana vibes.

‘Beautiful style. I whole heartedly agree on all three,’ one said.

‘I’m 42 and just learning how to dress as an adult because of you,’ another added.

‘This is such good advice, timeless,’ a third chimed in.

One woman agreed that Alex’s style was stunning, even though it lacked ‘personalised touches’.

But others said the recommendations were ‘so boring’ and ‘joyless’, with hardly any colours besides black, white and beige.

Fans of graphic t-shirts in particular refused to let them go and called the advice to banish them ‘harsh’.

One unlucky woman laughed about the outfit she was currently wearing.

‘Not me sitting here in all three,’ she said.
