Joy Behar took some low-blow shots at Nicolas Cage on this morning’s episode of The View.
After Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker revealed that she and Cage had previously dated on Sunday night’s (July 13) episode of Watch What Happens Live, Cage speculated why the actress might’ve ghosted him.
“I cared about Sarah, but I don’t think I passed the Mom test,” the actor said in a statement to E! News. “I recall sitting down with her and her mother for dinner at the Russian Tea Room, and I don’t know if it was my blue Vanson Leather motorcycle jacket (which I still have) or my sinusitis, but I didn’t hear from her again.”
Cage’s witty response became a Hot Topic segment during today’s broadcast of The View, in which Behar cheekily asked, “What didn’t they like about him, besides his performance in Moonstruck?“
The comedian’s shade left some of her co-hosts stunned, forcing Whoopi Goldberg to praise Cage’s “great” performance in the 1987 romantic comedy.
“I’m not saying it wasn’t, but that could’ve been something that irritated them,” Behar suggested, as Alyssa Farah Griffin called her out for “dragging” the Oscar-winning actor. “I’m Italian. I never thought that movie represented Italians that well.”
When Goldberg asked Behar to name any movie that accurately represented a specific culture, Behar jokingly replied, “The Godfather II.“
The rumors about Cage and Parker having a romantic relationship began circulating when they were filming the 1992 rom-com Honeymoon in Vegas. While it didn’t work out between them, Parker went on to marry fellow actor Matthew Broderick in 1997, and they have been together ever since. Cage, for his part, has been married five times, most recently to Riko Shibata in 2021.
I guess Broderick did a better job at passing the Mom test!
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
