With the shocking news of Donald Trump‘s guilty verdict yesterday (May 30), The View had to convene unexpectedly for a special show this morning, during which even Whoopi Goldberg — who is typically off on Fridays — couldn’t miss.
The co-hosts began their chat by sharing how they reacted to hearing that Trump had been convicted of all 34 counts by a Manhattan jury, making him the first U.S. president to have been found guilty of committing a felony. Trump was found guilty of trying to influence the 2016 election by paying hush money to Stormy Daniels, who said the two had sex years earlier.
Joy Behar said she had been stocking up at the store when the news broke yesterday.
“I was at Costco buying ten boxes of Keurig coffee and my watch started to buzz,” she said, gesturing at the Apple Watch on her wrist.
“I got so excited I started leaking a little bit!” she quipped, which sent the the table into hysterics.
Goldberg joked, “So you’re the leaker?” as Behar replied, “I’m the leaker!”
Later in the segment, Behar cracked another popular one-liner as the panel discussed what’s to come now that Trump has been found guilty. Sunny Hostin, the show’s legal expert, said she’d spoken to someone in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office who predicted Trump would get one year in prison.
“When you spend a year in prison in New York or under, you serve in Rikers Island,” she said with a grin. When she added that Trump could likely get a “six-month split,” meaning he’d spend six months at Rikers and the rest on probation, Behar joked, “And the rest at this table!”
We can’t even begin to imagine that, but we’re sure it’d be a bit awkward for his former employee Alyssa Farah Griffin, to say the least.
