‘The View’ Fires Back at “Undertones of Sexism” Surrounding Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s Shocking Divorce

The View is well aware that Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are only human. Following the shocking news of their divorce, the women called out the sexist undertones regarding speculation over what led to their split.

Earlier this week, Jonas filed for divorce after four years of marriage to Turner. According to a TMZ report, the estranged couple had been having “serious problems” for the last six months as Jonas had been taking care of their two young children “pretty much all of the time” while Turner was filming her new show in England.

Another source claimed to the outlet that their “different lifestyles” contributed to the decision to break up. While she allegedly “likes to party,” he prefers to “stay at home.” Others alleged that Jonas had caught Turner doing or saying something on a Ring camera that served as the straw that broke the camel’s back.

However, the ladies of The View officially declared an S.O.S over the way the divorce has played out in the media. On this morning’s episode of the hit daytime talk show, Sara Haines was bothered by the “spin” on the story.

“She’s working, he’s working. These weren’t new careers. They met on these terms. She’s at a wrap party for a show she did,” she said, referring to photos of Turner partying recently. “We have wrap parties here. You celebrate the end! So that isn’t just a bar that she’s out hanging out, she happens to be with her colleagues at a bar, celebrating the end of a series and we don’t know if the other times the kids are with her.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin — who admitted to being a big fan of Turner in Game of Thrones — went on to point out the sexism surrounding the situation.

“I sense some innuendo and undertones here of sexism,” she said. “There’s even more out there, I don’t even want to give it steam, but like, alleging things that are on a camera without even saying what it was that they saw?”

Meanwhile, Sunny Hostin found it “ridiculous” that Turner is being portrayed in a bad light after it was reported that their three-year-old and one-year-old have been touring with Jonas and his brothers.

“I’m sorry, is this an immaculate conception?” she asked, before referring to her own family life. “I mean, you know, they’re his freaking kids too! So what, he’s taking care of the kids. Like, does he get a gold star? Manny doesn’t get a gold star because he drove Paloma to school. I’m sorry, he doesn’t.”

Despite the reports, Jonas and Turner posted a joint statement confirming that they have “mutually decided” to go their separate ways.

“After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” they wrote in an Instagram post. “Truly this is a united decision, and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
